Guh?
Should we be offering potential University of Illinois athletes a four-year plea deal (two years in state lockup/two years of probation) instead of a four-year scholarship?
Seriously. Are any of my tax dollars going to these scholarships, or does it all come from the I Fund? If taxes are funding the scholarships for these jokers, why do I also have to help pay to squeeze them through the legal system (law enforcement, court costs, corrections, etc.)?

at least they got kicked of the team. If they were basketball players, the local DA would drop the charges and they'd still be on the team.
the recent recruitment of thugs is disappointing.
but it's not about higher education, it's about making money via athletics.
Athletic scholarships are not paid for by tax dollars.
Thanks to the U of I basketball program - which passed on his offer to quit the team - Luther Head is one internship shy of a bachelors degree and pays lots of taxes on the millions he is making in the NBA (as opposed to sitting in jail living off your tax dollars).
Just a thought.
